Semirom Refractory Mining Company

Semirom Refractory Mining Company was established in 1998 through private sector investment, with its main activity focused on mining and the production of aluminosilicate refractory materials. The company owns three refractory clay mines, primarily composed of kaolinite, with estimated reserves of approximately 19 million tons.

Exploration of the Semirom refractory clay mine was carried out in 1966 by the Geological Survey Organization. The technological assessment of the mine was later conducted by Georges Alten, a French expert from the United Nations, and the extraction process initially began using manual sorting methods. In 1999, a refractory mineral processing plant was constructed on the ارتفاعات overlooking the mine, where iron compounds are separated using dry magnetic separators. In 2021, with the commissioning of a rotary calcination kiln, the production of calcined refractory clay (chamotte) with a capacity of 30,000 tons per year was initiated.

With access to one of the best kaolinite reserves in the region, the company supplies more than 30,000 tons of various products annually to refractory industries both domestically and internationally. The unique quality and consistency of its products have led to a steady increase in customers and sales volume, making the Semirom refractory brand a well-recognized name across the country’s refractory industry.

Since early 2023, aiming to position itself among producers of finished refractory products, the company has launched production lines for aluminosilicate refractory castables and bricks. Currently, the castable production line has a capacity of 10,000 tons per year, producing chamotte and alumina-based products ranging from 35% to 97% alumina in various types (lightweight, heavyweight, conventional, and low cement). Additionally, the production line for aluminosilicate bricks has been commissioned with a capacity of 3,500 tons per year, covering different types of chamotte and alumina bricks.

The company’s Refractory Research Center, Quality Control Laboratory, Chemistry Laboratory, and Processing Laboratory are equipped with advanced analytical tools such as XRF devices, spectrophotometers, wet chemistry lab equipment, and modern instruments for measuring physical and mechanical properties of refractory bricks and castables. Supported by skilled and experienced personnel, these facilities continuously monitor product quality and contribute to quality improvement and product portfolio development.

The company currently holds ISO 9001:2015 certification from URS, United Kingdom.

Exports

Expansion of Semirom refractory product exports to regional and international markets

With decades of experience across the full value chain—from raw material extraction to processing and production of refractory products—Semirom Refractory has established a strong position in regional and international export markets. A significant portion of its production is currently exported, making exports a key pillar of its sustainable development strategy.

Russia, as a strategic market in the steel, cement, and metallurgy industries, holds a significant role in the company’s export plans. The consistent quality of products, compliance with technical requirements of heavy industries, and reliable supply capability have made Semirom’s products attractive to industrial consumers in this market.

Turkey is another key export destination due to its advanced cement, steel, and ceramics industries. Geographical proximity, deep understanding of market standards, and flexibility in product design tailored to customer needs have facilitated the company’s successful presence in this market.

Afghanistan, as a developing market with growing demand for refractory materials in construction and industrial projects, is also an important export destination. Semirom Refractory plays a significant role in supplying reliable and cost-effective products suited to this market’s conditions.

By focusing on continuous quality improvement, expanding its product portfolio, adhering to international standards, and strengthening commercial partnerships, Semirom Refractory is steadily advancing toward greater export growth and a stronger presence in global markets, while remaining ready to meet the needs of new customers worldwide.
